Kenny Wayne ShepherdJanuary 30
There are few artists whose names are synonymous with one instrument and how it’s played in service to an entire genre.
Utter the phrase “young blues rock guitarist” within earshot of anyone with even a cursory knowledge of the modern musical vanguard and the first name they are most likely to respond with will be Kenny Wayne Shepherd. The Louisiana born axeman and songsmith has sold millions of albums while throwing singles into the Top 10, shining a light on the rich blues of the past and forging ahead with his own modern twist on a classic sound he has embodied since his teens.
In a 20-year recording career that began when he was just 16, Shepherd has established himself as an immensely popular recording artist, a consistently in-demand live act and an influential force in a worldwide resurgence of interest in the blues.
Grand Funk RailroadFebruary 13
Grand Funk Railroad (also known as Grand Funk) is an American blues rock band that was highly popular during the 1970s, touring extensively and playing to packed arenas worldwide.
David Fricke of Rolling Stone magazine once said, "You cannot talk about rock in the 1970s without talking about Grand Funk Railroad!"
Known for their crowd-pleasing arena rock style, the band was well-regarded by audiences despite a relative lack of critical acclaim.
The band's name is a play on words of the Grand Trunk Western Railroad, a railroad line that ran through the band's home town of Flint, Michigan
Rahlves' Banzai Tour - KirkwoodFebruary 27-28
The Rahlve's Banzai Tour is the world's premier big mountain freeski meets ski/boarder-cross event on the planet.
This year's tour promises to be one of the most exciting as last year's champs will have tough competition in defending their titles. The Rahlves' Banzai Tour is racing in it's purest form. Big mountain freeride meets ski / boarder-cross action! Taking place at two Lake Tahoe resorts it's head to head action four at a time, top to bottom, down a wide open course over natural terrain and snow conditions. This is the ultimate test of ski and riding skills.
A solo timed qualifying run on Saturday ranks the Top 32 men ski / board and Top 16 women ski / board to Sunday's finals. The finals match up four competitors at a time with the top two in each round advancing through the brackets until the remaining four battle it out for the podium and the Rahlves' Banzai win. It's racing in its purest form. Daron Rahlves, Banzai Master, World Champion, USA Olympic ski racer, Winter X-Games Skier-X Champion and big mountain skier is the organizer of the event.
